Nestling at the foot of the fjord's dramatic granite mountain range stands Orahovac, a tiny picturesque fishing village, some 10 minutes drive from Kotor and a little less to the beautiful village of Perast.
A regular bus service operates between Kotor and Risan with connections to Herceg Novi.
Orahovac has a south facing, long but narrow, white pebble beach. The beach is fringed by trees, offering welcome shade from the mid day sun. Three seasonal beach bars sit on the water's edge. A mountain spring ensures the waters of the fjord remain pristine clear and the gently sloping beach makes this an ideal area for swimming.
There are two small local shops in Orahovac selling most basic essentials including fruit, vegetables and ice cream. The 4 star Amfora Hotel, 2 minutes walk from the apartment, has free wifi, a fitness centre, a bar, and both an indoor and outside restaurant - the latter consisting of picturesque terraces zig zagging right down to the water's edge. A new bistro which opened in Autumn 2014 is also very close to the apartment.
Just outside of Orahovac, in the village of Ljuta, is the excellent Stari Mlini Restaurant - a renovated water mill and though a little more expensive is well worth a visit!
There are more cafes a little further along in Dobrota, perched right on the waters edge and serving fast foods and drinks- perhaps a little too far to walk in the summer but, maybe, not in the cooler months.
A gentle walk through the tiny village is always pleasant but if you feel like doing something a little more exhilarating, then you can climb the steep lane to visit the Chapel of St George which is perched on a rock above Orahovac with amazing views over the fjord.
There are hiking trails up into the mountains for those who are looking for something more strenuous! ...and of course the picturesque village of Perast and the medieval town of Kotor are both only a few minutes drive away
