Montenegro - Getting there ...



The nearest airport to the apartment is at Tivat some 20 minutes drive away and Montenegor Airlines are now flying from London Gatwick. Podgorica airport is some 1 1/2 hours away and Ryannair has flights from London Stanstead.


For a wider choice of departure airports, it is better to fly to Dubrovnik airport in Croatia and hire a car. Most car hire firms have no restrictions on their cars being taken into Montenegro - the border is just 15 minutes away - but check first and there may be a charge! Dubrovnik airport is only one hour's drive away from the apartment along just one road which skirts the edge of the fjord. You can get cheap flights from:

220 volts AC & sockets are round two-pin (European).


Euro. There are ATM machines in almost every  town. MasterCard, Maestro and Visa cards can be used for payment in most shops and fuel stations. Other cards are accepted in some of the Banks in Montenegro.



PUBLIC TRANSPORT - Taxis are plentiful. Regular bus services run from Kotor to Tivat, Budva, Centinje and to the capital Podgorica. And then, going the other way, from Kotor to Herceg Novi via Perast and Risan. There is a train service from Bar to Belgrade in Serbia.


Driving from UK takes 2 days but is more comfortable in 3 and leisurely in 4!  Check that your car 's insurance covers Montenegro. If not it can be bought very cheaply at the main Montegrin border.

Currency & ATM's

Mediterranean  on the coast and fjord, with long dry summers  and short mild winters. Centrally, it is colder in the winter and warmer in the summer than the coast. The mountain regions has a sub-alpine climate with snowy winters and moderate summers


Serbian although English is now being taught in schools as the second language.

Car hire is recommended, available at both airports or can be arranged.  Pick ups can also be arranged if required.


DRIVING  is on the right. There are no major highways and very fuel dual carriageways. Once off the beaten track, there are many narrow winding lanes to explorer so hire the smallest car possible! UK and or international driving licences are accepted.
